Jan Hamill is the Director of Episcopal Service Corps Maryland. She was born in Michigan, spent early childhood in Alaska, grew up in Maryland, and spent some time in France along the way. When she was in college, in the midst of studying medieval French and living in Vermont, Jan heard a call to the ordained ministry in the Episcopal Church. Long story short: the Church said “yes” and she was ordained a priest, married a seminary classmate, Mark Gatza, and has served congregations and schools of various sizes in Maryland throughout her career. She and Mark have 2 young adult children, Meg and John. The passion for Jan‘s ministry has always been “formation” of the children of God of all ages for the people God calls us to be. As part of wide and deep conversations about/with young adults and spirituality/ God/Church, she became the first Director of what is now ESC-MD. Jan also serve part time at the Church of the Holy Comforter as associate for formation and worship.
